Assistance is based on eligibility guidelines and our budget and capacity at the time of referral. If a family doesn’t align perfectly with our requirements, we still welcome a conversation as resources allow.

To help ensure timely and effective support, we ask partners to review the eligibility criteria and steps below before submitting a referral. We value our partnerships and appreciate your collaboration in helping FreeRent serve families effectively.

Eligibility Criteria

At least one adult with steady, verifiable income

Financial hardship caused by an unforeseen circumstance (i.e., medical expenses, disability, family crisis, domestic violence, natural disaster, transportation setbacks).

Rent and utilities total no more than 45% of gross income

Currently renting or actively securing housing

Responsive and willing to enter into a participation agreement

Responsive and willing to enter into a participation agreement

If selected, a willingness to participate in FreeRent’s financial education and savings programming

What Partners Can Do Before Referring
